The Ophir Creek Trail

Ophir Creek trail connects Tahoe Meadows and Davis Creek Park. It gives excellent views of the slide side of Slide Mountain. The climb up is 3737 ft. from the parking outside of the park to the highest point. There is a total of 346 ft.of descent to give a total accent of 3391 ft. in 7.83 miles.

There are two lakes not far from the trail. The third lake was destroyed in the last slide, at least as far as I could see. The lower, Rock Lake, is more rocks than lake and is of poor water quality. It would be best to collect water from other sources for drinking and use Rock Lake water for boiling for cooking. There are plenty of camp areas on the southwest end of the lake. The upper lake is Upper Price Lake. The water is excellent since Ophir Creek runs in and out of it.

Upper Price Lake is a choice destination. From below, there is a trail along the diversion ditch near the road that will take you to the lake without the wet water crossing the road would take you through. It is not the greatest trail but is passable. From above, the trail is steep and well defined. Several fish around the lake were jumping. There are places to set up camp. I prefer the ridge just east of the lake just to get away from some of the bugs. The spots on ridge are small backpacker tent size.
